MENOPAUSE AT WORK
Managing Menopause in the Workplace
Managing the Health and Wellness of employees is extremely important, especially for those experiencing menopausal symptoms.
Women over the age of 50 are the fastest growing segment of the workforce, with many at this point in their career within high profile and managerial positions. Most will go through the menopause transition during their working lives and will not reach their full potential unless they get the right support from their employer.
Studies have shown that menopause can have a significant impact on employee well-being, with six in every ten women experiencing menopausal symptoms reporting that symptoms have had a negative impact on their work.
Symptoms, both physical and mental, can be so debilitating, causing much emotional pain and anxiety, which in turn can affect one's ability to cope with workloads and carry out daily tasks. This has led many women to take time off work, reduce their hours or sadly even leave their job altogether.
Understandably, the majority of women are unwilling to disclose menopause related health issues to their line managers, especially if they are male.
Employers that support women through the menopause will reap the benefits in terms of increased engagement, lowering the cost of sickness absence, recruitment costs to replace an employee who may leave their job, the cost of training up new employees, or in the worse case avoiding costs relating to employment tribunal claims.
Menopause Wellness East Anglia can offer training for your Managers not only to raise awareness, but to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities and duty of care during this mid life transition, and that they are confident on how to support their female colleagues.
In addition to Manager's Training, we also offer workshops for your female employees going through menopause themselves. These workshops concentrate on a holistic approach to managing menopause, covering everything from diet and nutrition to the physical and mental challenges, along with the medical and alternative treatments available, including a detailed and true account of HRT.
